I find it necessary at this point in time to liquidate many of my collectibles and artifacts and downsize. I have no children, heirs or family.  With that in mind it is with a heavy heart that I must put these models up for sale to any interested buyer. Serious buyers only, please email me at texxn65@gmail.com for private discussions concerning the terms of this offer.  I can possibly deliver the Morgan model or Whaleboat to most anywhere in the continental US as well as provide a basic case frame for them; this will be negotiated with a buyer and will be in addition to the final price.  Otherwise, only the models are for sale and crating and shipping is the buyers responsibility.  I have a number of other highly collectible items that I plan to list on a separate page on this site in the near future.

This allows for an individual investor or collector a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a Museum Quality Ship Model without the fees or commissions of Auction Houses or Dealers.  Please look at this website and decide for yourself.  There is a unique feature which makes these models an extremely special opportunity to own a piece of the real ship, (as well as the model), which is in Mystic, CT.  To just view the finished model, click the button at the bottom of this page.

Even though I am still working on downsizing and liquidating my collectibles, which as of 7-5-2017 are still available, (AS OF 6-10-2018 THE WHALEBOAT MODEL HAS BEEN SOLD) I still have the urge to build something. I have had the kit for the New Bedford Whaleboat by Model Shipways for a while now,  and I have decided to go ahead and build it too.  I have started another Build Log page to document it's construction.  I probably should have done this prior to building the whaleboats for the Morgan so I would have had a better understanding and appreciation for what these little boats meant to a whaler.  I wasn't sure I was going to even attempt building this especially after making 7 boats for the Morgan and when finished with them I was burned out with the duplication.  The model can also travel with me and I can build it in my 5th Wheel much easier than a full size scale ship model.  The model Whaleboat was completed on January 10,2017.  To go to the log use the button below or maneuver around to the page:  WHALEBOAT BUILD LOG BY JOHN FLEMING.

The sales of these items has been slow to say the least.  I've had them sold but the actions of one individual has prevented them from closing.  I won't go into this at this point.  I have finished the whaleboat and now starting another ship that I have been aboard many times over the last few years, the U.S. BRIG NIAGARA moored at Erie, Pennsylvania.  I have started a new website for this build.  See button below to go to this website.

For the purpose of classifying the Morgan model, according to The Mariner's Museum in Newport News, VA, and The Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, CT, which compiled a document in 1980 titled "Ship Model Classification Guidelines" for the purpose of setting a "standard" to compare models to and it is honored world wide.  This model falls into the classification of "Class B, a Modified Scratch-Built Model:  Model Built from scratch, but supplemented by the use of some commercially fabricated accessories", per the guidelines.  It is estimated that around 5,000 hours is invested in the construction of this model and about 98% of it is scratch built.

This Website is a complete step by step Build Log from Start to Finish for constructing this model.

Please explore the site.  You will find many photographs and discussions that hopefully will guide one to building a magnificent scale model of your dreams.  There are pages listed under the "More" button above that will take you to the various pages of the website.  The "Build Log" pages are a visual, logical sequence that should serve as a supplement to the Drawing Sheets and Manual that are provided or help in scratch building the model, which is the preferred method of construction.  I found that the Drawing Sheets (6) are good but the Manual is quite lacking and extremely basic, especially in the step by step areas and order of assembly which don't exist.  I hardly ever referred to it during this build as it was of no use.  I referred to pictures and a good friend, Lester Palifka, who actually worked on the restoration and provided me with explanations and photographs of the areas when I had questions.

I have found that over time, many people that are involved in ship modeling have difficulty finding tools, adhesives, parts, wood, and many items needed for a build and have no resources available to locate them.  Some have disabilities and are unable to drive to a local hobby store or the distance is too great.   With respect to that I am providing a "Ship's Store" page to assist in having an easy means of obtaining those items  like a "one stop shop" type of resource.  There is a "Tools & Resources" page with links that will take you to a discussion, description and the source to find them easily.

I am proud to have  a Build Log of my friend Lester Palifka's Whaleboat and mock up of the Starboard Forward Whaleboat Station of the ship, with deck, bulwarks, davits & bearers, bulwark and rails in 1:16 scale added to this Website.  Please follow the page above to see this log.  This also is a work in progress and will be updated as it progresses.  This log will be invaluable for building the 7 boats necessary for fitting out the Morgan - only with scale being the difference.

The BUILD LOG is divided into 6 sections of construction.  BUILD LOG PART I is devoted to building the hull and Deck Structures to the stage of rigging the ship,  BUILD LOG PART II is devoted to Masting or "Stepping the Masts" & Bowsprit, BUILD LOG PART III is The Standing Rigging, Boat Handling Stations and the Cutting-In Tackle and Fish Hook.   BUILD LOG PART IV, is the Running Rigging and Spars,  BUILD LOG PART V deals with the Whaleboats and BUILD LOG PART VI  deals with the Bowsprit, Cutting-In Stage, Finishing Details and the Base (unique feature) for mounting the model. The files are large so allow a little time for them to download.

There is a "MYSTIC SEAPORT MUSEUM ARCHIVES PAGE" which has the various plans and drawings I used in the construction of the Deck Structures, Hull Layout, Masts and Yards, and for anyone wishing to include sails on the model, there are drawings for the Sails and Rigging Lines.  These are available for a fee from Mystic.  Follow the links and Button below to go to their page.

The "SHIP'S STORE" page will take you to my store where you can find tools, ship model kits, books and products related to model ship building among some general products of interest.

The "GALLERY" pages have photos of the Morgan in real life, the Restoration, Historical as well as other ships of interest.  The USS Constitution and the US Brig Niagara, both circa War of 1812 ships are featured and some whaleboats.

In the GALLERY, OTHER SHIP MODELS, is a page - NEW BEDFORD WHALEBOATS that features the various whale boat models in various stages of construction as well as completed models.

For the "WHALEBOAT BUILD LOG BY JOHN FLEMING", you will find a new build log on constructing the 1/16 or 3/4"=1'0" scale boat.  This build log page was started on 9-5-2016 and as of 01-10-201 has been completed.  The Base of the model is the other half of the slab I obtained from Mystic Seaport.

There is also a GALLERY Page for this completed model of the Morgan.

I was fortunate to be able to visit the Morgan and Mystic Seaport again on 8-22-2015 for a photo opportunity.  I took over 400 pictures of the Rigging and status of the Morgan at this date.  The Pictures are posted in the Gallery Section (The Morgan As of August 2015) page for Reference.

The model was completed December 23, 2015.

The base which is unique is shown at the end of BUILD LOG VI and was completed January 10, 2016
