US BRIG NIAGRA
The US Brig Niagra, Comodore Oliver Hazzard Perry's Flagship, Battle of Lake Erie, September 10, 1813.
This ship has a very unique history and is famous for many reasons. The ship is a reproduction of the original Niagra and is currently a school as well as a working ship and museum. She is berthed in Erie, Pennsylvania and during season sails a number of the Great Lakes giving public cruises as well as training cruises and shows. When visiting here in 2013 she was not in port so only the museum was available. Model Shipways offers a kit of the Niagra in 3/16" scale and will be my next build after finishing the Morgan. This Gallery will feature real life photographs of the ship and at the end will feature the 2013 visit which has many different model ships on display which were not here for the 2015 visit. One model in particular is a 1/2" = 1'0" scale model of the Niagra which is now the main attraction model in the Museum. It is over 8 feet long and 6 1/2' tall depicting the ship as she was during the War of 1812.
